Back to school! Week 1

Well, Carson is officially a SECOND GRADER!  How did that happen?

At the end of the day, Carson came in to my room with this whistle from his teacher and said,"You 'moustache' me a question about my day."  too cute!

Ollie is getting back to his day long naps at the window while we are gone.  He is trying to stare down Carson for a bite of his after school snack here.

Friday, we had a back to school bash at our school.  Eric was "randomly" selected for the timed tricycle race.  And he WON!  Way to go Daddy!

Saturday, Carson and Daddy went to a Dutch oven cooking class with the Boy Scouts.  I stayed home and ran errands and cleaned house.  They had a great time making Grandma Pat's chicken and rice.

 

It was a great first week of school!  Though I am continuing to pray for things to not get too crazy. 

a day in {K}

Today was the BIG DAY!

Carson went to A Day in K.  This is a day for the next year's kindergarteners to visit the school and see where they will be attending school next year.

It was an exciting day for us all, but I'm a little sad to think my baby boy will be old enough for big school next year.

After we checked in and met the teachers, Dr. Kopp- the principal, the office manager - Ms. Cheri, the counselor- Mrs. Lewis, and the nurse- Nurse Linda.... They were divided into 3 groups.  Dr. Kopp asked them to think of a fruit or vegetable that was the color of their group.  That would be the group name.  Carson was in the green group, and he raised his hand.  Dr. Kopp picked him to name the group.  He chose Pear, because he told me that he "loves green pears."

Next,  Carson went on a bus ride with Daddy.

I think he enjoyed it.

 Next stop, a tour of the classrooms.  He really liked seeing the rooms.  I had lunch duty at this time so I couldn't go with them.  I actually teach math at the school where Carson will be attending.  It will be wonderful to have him there at the school with me during the day.

Next, we went to the gym for some fun.  Normally, they get to visit the playground at this time.  But, it has been raining for a week straight!  So, we played inside.

Then we went to the library, where Dr. Kopp read some stories.  

Finally, we went to eat lunch.  He was able to see how to go through the lunch line, get his milk and fork, carry his tray with both hands and open his milk.

He liked chicken patty day.  That's what we call Wednesday in the lunch room, because we have chicken patties or nuggets every Wednesday.  :)

After lunch, they were able to go to the Book Fair and look at books.  Of course, Daddy was talked into buying a book.

Before they left, Carson came to visit me in my classroom.

And, we had to stop by and see Tammy.  Carson loves spending time with her (as do I!) and he loves her puppy- Chloe.  He is convinced Ollie (our puppy) and Chloe will be getting married.

Another milestone passed.  A day in {K}...

Okay, not quite.  But I always hear that song when I hear the word moving.  Sorry Tammy...I even do it when I blog. {Break out in songs that I'm reminded of by random words. :)}

I found out last week that I would have to be switching classrooms.  This morning, all of this furniture (except 1 round table) was down the hall in another classroom, and the walls and boards were empty.  I had help with moving the furniture (thank goodness), but the rest of it I put away and organized myself.  I can not explain to you how much stuff I had and how hard I had to work to get it done.  But, I did it!  And I think it looks pretty good for one day's work- if I do say so myself...

I think I'm going to cover the painted window on the wall with something... not sure what.  Either paper and border, so it looks like a bulletin board.  OR a blown up picture of the beach/ocean...

The walls aren't done.  I still have more instructional posters and things to put up, but it's good enough to teach on Monday.  The rest can go up as I need it.  I'm actually excited to be in a smaller room since I only teach a few kids at a time.  I think it will be nice.  

It's been a long day. I'm tired.  My feet hurt.  I'm so glad the move is done...

Drug Awareness Week-Dress up days... Parent/Teacher Conferences... Fall Parties... Principal Walk Through... all in the same week. Really????

On a lighter note... Carson informed me that he had lunch duty today in preschool. He said his job was to squirt and wipe the table, then put down the napkins. I am so impressed at the things he's learning there. Not just academics, but responsibilities and social behaviors. He was the line leader last week. What a big boy! I just can't believe my red haired little baby is now out in the world by himself, growing up. I am extremely happy and sad about it all at the same time.

For Columbus week, Carson made an Indian headband...

Carson was in charge of making the cornbread muffins for dinner. He put the liners in the pan, stirred up the ingredients, and helped me scoop them up.

The Last Day of School-2009!

School's out!  School's out!  Teacher let the monkeys out!

I am so elated that yesterday was the last day of school  It was a weird day, for some reason.  it never felt final.  I think being in a new building has thrown me off all year.  BUT, it's over now and I can spend the whole summer with Carson.  I'm so excited!

After school, Tammy, Kelly, Carson and I went to Mr. Yen's to celebrate the last day.  Carson was such a good boy, and Tammy and Kelly loved Mr. Yen's.  They had never been there before.

When we got home, I was wiped out.  I felt like I had been run over a few times.  I HAD to take a nap.  So Eric got home at 5:00, and I slept for 2 hours.  It felt like 30 minutes!  When I got up Mom, Dad, Tara, Hailey, and Tyler were here for Carson's t-ball game.  

So, we went to t-all which was an experience.  When we first got there, my friend Tonya was watching her daughter play.  She said that Abby had made dirt angels on the field.  We laughed and thought that was funny and cute.  Carson hit his head on the bleachers right before he went on the field, So he didn't want to play then.  Eric had to take him out there and Carson spent some time clinging to him, but he finally began playing.

After I hollered at him to stop playing in the dirt, he laid down in the dirt and made a snow angel, just like Abby!  And he didn't see her do one, so I can't believe he did it!  My dad and all the friends that came to watch got a huge kick out of it.  What a character he is!

Now he's on third and holding his shorts up as he runs so he doesn't let them rub on his boo boo.  Even though his shorts aren't long enough to rub his knee.  HA!

Game over!  Doesn't he look happy about it?  He is COVERED in DIRT!

Now for his FAVORITE part of the game... SNACKS!

His glove is so dirty and was used for dirt catching, not ball catching.

After the game, we went to Cruisin' USA and had custard.  Then, we went home.  I forced Tara to set up her blog, while Carson and Tyler had a sword fight.

It was a FULL day, but we had a blast.
