chevron, zig zag, modern, vintage...

It depends how you look at it.  The chevron pattern is so "in" right now, but it was "in" back in the day also.  So, no matter what your take on the zig zag pattern... I'm in love with the chevron stripe, and I've been wanting to do something in my craft room with it.

I decided to try my hand at some wall art...  I purchased one of the nicer, thicker canvases so it would look more professional.

The worst part was measuring and taping it off, but once I got the hang of it...

I got a little faster.

One mistake that I made was NOT painting the whole canvas white to prevent bleed through under the tape.

But, I think it turned out quite nicely.  This is before I went back and touched up all the fuzzy lines. Next time, I'm definitely painting the white first to seal the tape down. However, I am quite happy with the finished product!  And it goes perfectly with all the bright colors in the room. :)

Now, all I need is a lamp shade!

It's my new subway art project!

I am so excited to share with you something I made this weekend!  I have seen so many bloggers making  various types of subway art, and I have been wanting to try one myself. 

I painted a canvas black, but only painted one coat so it had a little of the white showing through.  I liked the look.  Then I made words that made me think of Carson or things he liked with my Cricut.  I used a few different fonts.  I glued them on using Mod Podge.  

I need a little more practice with the Mod Podge to make it look a little more "professional."  But,  I do think it turned out very decently for my first try!!!!

I hope to hang it up in his playroom very soon.

keep calm and jingle on

I made this for Kelly after seeing prints on the internet.  I made this one in bronzes and ivories because her Xmas decor is rustic (and gorgeous)!  I can't wait to make one for myself.

crafting torture

So... I found a blog that had a very cute idea for a wreath.  She actually cited another blog... If you click here, you can go to the blog I found and then see her post which cites the first blog.  Is that confusing enough???

Since Kelly, Scott, and the girls were coming over tonight... I decided Kelly and I could have a craft night and make these wreaths.  They looked adorable on the blog, and we're always looking for a cute idea for decorating.  I went to Hobby Lobby and got a 14" straw wreath and some chocolate burlap.  I already had a glue gun and plenty of glue sticks.

We got started by cutting 3" wide strips a yard long to wrap around the wreath.  

After we wrapped the wreath, we cut strips to use for the "flowers".

We were supposed to wind and twist the burlap strips and hot glue them as we did it.  But, we kept burning our fingers with the hot glue.  It was so painful!!!  Kelly even gave herself blisters on fingers on both hands.

We seemed to finally figure it out though.  After quite a few laughs at how this craft was harder and much more dangerous than I had imagined... I think we figured it out. 

In the end, we were pretty happy with the outcome.  Kelly's wreath has full and fluffy flowers and mine are more flat, but I think both styles look great!

I think I'm going to hang mine on the pantry door with a wide ribbon to go with the holidays.  I can't wait to go buy ribbon!  I'll post another pic once I have it up with the ribbon...

UPDATE!!!!!  Here's the finished product!  I love it!!!
AND I can change the ribbon out with the holidays and seasons!!
